Microsoft Xbox One – Whats the truth?

Wednesday, May 29th, 2013

The Microsoft Xbox OneThe Microsoft Xbox may not be the integrated home automation dream that the incumbent 360 has been.

With the requirement for an always on Kinect 2.0 it may be more efficient and bright than the original bar but how will the consumer feel about a device that could be recording onto Microsoft’s servers personal data such as facial recognition, health information like heart rate and any other manner of intrusive data.

Microsoft’s vice president Phil Harrision has gone on record with the following statement; “Microsoft has very, very good policies around privacy,” he said. “We’re a leader in the world of privacy, I think you’ll find. We take it very seriously. We aren’t using Kinect to snoop on anybody at all. We listen for the word ‘Xbox on’ and then switch on the machine, but we don’t transmit personal data in any way, shape or form that could be personally identifiable to you, unless you explicitly opt into that.”

The last section “unless you explicitly opt into that” smacks of previous facebook and google mistakes, the general public have a tendency to reject anything that could capture personal data especially if you don’t tick the right box.

The used game scenario seems to be a total mess, it’s not just used games what about sharing? My son and I share games at home between two separate Xbox’s he most certainly doesn’t want me logging on to his account and trashing his credibility by playing under his gamer tag.

As to used games, it’s what has made the Xbox 360 gain the market share it has and the only thing that has helped keep games stores on the high street.

Microsoft has maybe missed a trick here, they should have either got rid of the physical media all together and reduced gaming prices dramatically or they create a system similar to the software on your PC and laptop, you can have a license to install on both but only run online on one concurrently.

Also without support for Xbox 360 games its going to be a huge purchasing decision and you can clearly see that many gamer’s will wait to see how many titles are available before committing the cash.

The jury is out we can only wait and see.

Xbox Music, Microsofts New All-in-One Music Service with Home Automation

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012
Xbox Music is Microsoft’s brand new all-in-one music service that enables users to listen to music how, when, where and on what device they want. It is included in a rolling update to Xbox LIVE that starts Tuesday and will be expanded when Windows 8 launches.
Integrating Xbox Music with a distributed home automation system from install Automation will allow you to use this service in every connected room.
The text below from Microsoft explains in detail the concept and thoughts behind this new service.

Xbox Music, Microsoft’s new all-in-one music service, specially designed to let users listen to music in exactly the way they want, begins rolling out to millions of people around the world Oct. 16 on the Xbox 360, then to the masses with Windows 8 on Oct. 26.

The all-in-one music service combines the best aspects of free-streaming radio, music subscription services and music purchasing options, all in one elegant package, says Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business Marketing and Strategy. No longer do people have to rely on “service hopping” to get the music they love.

</object></div> <p><mce:script type=”text/javascript”><!– document.write(“<script type=’text/javascript’ src=’” + (window.location.protocol) + “//c.microsoft.com/ms.js’><\/script>”); // –></mce:script></p>
For example, Mehdi explains, here’s a not-that-outlandish scenario for a music lover today: you’re listening to an Internet radio station at work, say Pandora, and you hear a new song you love. You quickly stop what you’re doing and bookmark the song before it stops playing. Later, in the car, you open Pandora to look up the name of the bookmarked song, then you open Spotify so you can use your subscription to listen to it again. Two weeks later, you’re thoroughly in love with the song, and decide you want to buy it so you can burn it to a mix CD you’re making a friend, so you purchase the MP3 on Amazon or iTunes.

“There are a lot of individual services that do a good job, but today there isn’t a service which can pull together the benefits of download-to-own, music subscription, or free streaming services,” Mehdi says. “With Xbox Music, what we wanted to do is bring all of that value in one simple, easy-to-use service, then build some additional value on top — make it really beautiful, and have it work across all of your devices. We’ve been able to simplify the music experience in a really powerful way.”

Mehdi says Xbox Music will have arguably the largest music catalog of all music services, with 30 million songs, and that the experience offers a fantastic way of discovering new music. He says Xbox Music also will be the only all-in-one music service that enables users to listen to music in whatever way — and on whatever device — they choose.

“I’m excited as a consumer because I myself am a big music fan and this really will replace all of those other services I’ve been using,” Mehdi says. “From a business perspective, Xbox Music is a great way to show the world what Xbox means for broader entertainment on their phone, tablet, PC or console.”

Sky Now internet TV service comes to iPhone & iPad

Thursday, August 2nd, 2012

In yet another move towards tablet and smartphone viewing Sky has today confirmed that its Now TV app for viewing internet TV on an iPad or iPhone is now available for download from the App Store.

So best get the eye test booked in , watching Premier League on an iPhone isn’t our idea of the ultimate experience in home automation. However when it comes to Xbox then that is a different proposition as we can integrate that into a high definition matrix and route it around the home with ease.

For those that need to know:-

Sky Now, the new internet TV service from Sky launched on July 17th, offering films for £15 a month or from 99p to £3.49 per view.

The service will initially offer access to Sky Movies with no contract, set-up costs or installation fee. Subscribers will be able to view on a PC, Mac and selected Android smartphones from July 17th.

Owners of iPhones and iPads will be able to use the service within the next month, with Xbox users getting it later this summer and YouView when it launches.

Now TV customers can ‘pay & play’ for instant access to a selection of more than 1000 films through the Sky Store, including the latest ‘now on DVD ‘ releases.

Alternatively, for an all-you-can-watch experience, the monthly Sky Movies Pass gives instant and unlimited access to around 600 films, including recent blockbusters.

Anyone signing up for the Sky Movies Pass gets a free 30-day trial before having to pay the £15/month fee,

Later this year, Now TV will get additional content: Sky Sports including Premier League, cricket, rugby and golf, as well as channels including Sky1, Sky Arts and Sky Atlantic.

“We are targeting the 13 million non-pay TV households out there with a no commitment, no contract way of delivering Sky content they want in a dip in and dip out way,” said BSkyB managing director of sales and marketing Stephen van Rooyen. “The whole idea is to have something ‘not Sky’, it is purposely designed to attract new customers.”

ES9000 – A Larger than Life Experience

Today’s launch of the best-in-class ES9000 meets the rising market demand for extra-large screen TVs. The TV’s built-in camera, usable for video calling applications such as Skype, is hidden within the top of the bezel, rendering it invisible and disabled when not in use; when in use, the built-in camera pops up. The ES9000 also comes with four pairs of 3D glasses, ensuring the whole family can enjoy an immersive experience.

The ES9000 includes the complete suite of Samsung Smart TV features-Smart Interaction, Smart Content and Smart Evolution-that were introduced earlier this year. Smart Interaction enables users to control and interact with their TVs in a more intuitive way through voice, gesture and face recognition controls. Smart Content makes available a broad range of premium and signature content that can be shared across multiple devices. Smart Evolution, available on select Samsung Smart TVs, allows users to upgrade TV performance, content and features with a Smart Evolution Kit – sold separately beginning in 2013.

The ES9000 also includes Sound Share, the newest innovative Smart TV feature, which automatically and wirelessly connects TV audio to Samsung’s Series 6 and Series 7 Wireless Audio with Dock Systems via Bluetooth. The ES9000 also offers a fast and seamless Smart TV experience with a dual-core processor that allows consumers to download and use multiple apps or browse the Web more quickly.

The ES9000′s picture quality provides an enhanced Smart TV experience, utilizing Samsung’s Micro Dimming Ultimate and Precision Black Local Dimming technology to deliver richer, more optimized color and detail; the highest contrast ratio on a Samsung Smart TV to date; and the best picture quality available on a Samsung LED TV.

Install Automation win two major projects

Wednesday, July 25th, 2012

The last few months have been busy indeed at Install Automation, with a major installation in a stunning swiss chalet outside of Geneva. As soon as we have images from the client we will share them. Three racks were required for all the hardware, superb dual purpose media room and distributed HD video and integrated music to more rooms than you can imagine topped with a very impressive CCTV system. A superb project to say the least. The client can even utilise Iplayer and other services in every room from the top of a swiss mountain. Enado also facilitates total control and viewing of the entire property from where ever the client may be.

Also we have notable high value contract wins which will see the Enado control system sitting on top of a Helvar lighting control system and distributed high definition video from Wyrestorms extensive range of matrices plus a similar sized project utilising a substantial Lutron Homeworks QS system both systems benefiting from security cameras integrated as well.
